Description

Neem tree grows well on moist, dry, storing clayey or shallow soils. It propogates easily by seed without pre treatment. 10-12 months seedlings are good for transplanting. Fruiting begins after 5 years. Neem tree flowers from the beginning of January to May and fruit matures from May to August. Almost every part of the tree is bitter and has found application in industries and indigenous medicine.

 
Yields

On an average a Neem tree is 8m tall, yield about 350 kg of dry leaves. Fruit yield ranges from 37-55 kg per tree per year. Fresh fruit give an average 60% of dry fruit. Kernel constitute 10% of the dry fruit. Kernel yield 45% fixed oil

 
Potential

India has an annual potential of 80,000m tonnes of neem oil and 3,30,000m tonnes of neem cake from 0.42 million metric tonnes of need seed and 13.8 million neem trees. On an average Neem Seed yield 20% oil and 80% DOC. The seed is mainly valued for oil.
